On the "Connections" tab of the server setup page you can configure the maximum number of simultaneous connections, what kind of an Internet connection you have, and when the news server is available for connections.

Max number of simultaneous connections

With this setting you can select how many connections BNR will use when downloading articles from this server. Note the following restrictions:

1) You can only select a maximum of 4 connections per server.

2) If the server is busy (responds with "400 Connection limit reached" or something like that), BNR will automatically reset this back to 1.

3) The extra connections will only be used when downloading articles, header download will always use only one connection per server per newsgroup.

4) Every connection takes up to a megabyte of memory and launches two additional threads, so if you have a slow machine with not much memory, you should try to limit the number of connections running simultaneously.

Always (using a LAN Internet connection)

If you select this option, BNR considers this news server to be available always.

When online (using a Dial-Up connection)

If you select this option, BNR considers this news server to be available whenever you are online using a Dial-Up Network (DUN) connection to the Internet.

When connected to the selected connection(s):

If you have access to several Internet Service Providers (ISPs), you can make a certain news server accessible only when you are connected to certain ISP(s). This way you can configure news servers private to each of the ISPs and let BNR know whether they are available for Auto-Connect or not when you are connected to a certain ISP.
