Configuration Form / General

This tabsheet allows you to configure some global settings for BNR.

There are three areas you can configure:

Executable file types

This group of settings allows you to configure the allowed file extensions that can be launched from within BNR. Many types of files (for example .EXE and .DOC files) downloaded from newsgroups can contain viruses and thus should not be launched directly after downloading. With this setting you can let BNR know of the file types that are safe to execute. Note that you need to have a program associated with the extension for BNR to be able to execute the file (with the exception of *.jpg which can be executed internally). Click on the Add button to add a new file type, or click on the Delete button to remove the selected file type from the list.

Index file patterns

With these settings you can configure patterns that BNR uses with the "Find Index" feature. The patterns listed here are used first when determining whether an existing file is an index file. For each matching file the part of the file name that was replaced with the asterisk is used to determine whether the found index file might be an index for the file on which the "Find Index" feature was used for.

An example: You click "Find Index" on a file named "1234h12.jpg". BNR looks for files that match the above patterns in your FileCheck directories (see File Checking). Let's say BNR found files "1000hix1.jpg", "some_series_00.jpg", "1234h100.jpg" and "1234hix2.jpg". The patterns of these files matching the asterisk will be used to check against "1234h" (the file number part "12.jpg" is automatically ignored when using "Find Index"). Thus, BNR will match "1000h", "some_series", "1234h1" and "1234h" against "1234h". The last one matches, so the file "1234hix2.jpg" is the only match that is displayed in the result list.

Global settings

Here are some additional settings that are global within BNR.

Strict multipart size checking. This setting forces all multipart file parts to be of equal size (except the last part). If the part that was downloaded is of a different size this article is automatically expired from the server and the same parts will be downloaded from another server (if one exists). This should eliminate corrupted multipart files due to transmission or server errors.

Never ask confirmation for delete etc. operations. This setting removes those "Are you sure you want to delete these files" etc. confirmation popups, if you feel they are annoying.
